Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sataurday accompanied by senior district administration officials, visited Bassian Kothi located near Raikot after attending the funeral of Jathedar Jagdev Singh Talwandi.

 

Raikot (Ludhiana), September 20, 2014: Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has said that the state government is committed for the restoration of all buildings with historical and religious significance in Punjab. He said this during the review of ongoing restoration work of Bassian Kothi, a more than 200 year old monument of Sikh heritage, which is being developed into a memorial in remembrance of Late Maharaja Dalip Singh, the last Sikh Maharaja.
Accompanied by senior district administration officials, the Chief Minister visited Bassian Kothi located near Raikot after attending the funeral of Jathedar Jagdev Singh Talwandi, today. It was at Bassian Kothi where Maharaja Dalip Singh was kept in captivity arrested by the British in 1849 prior to his exile.
He directed the concerned officers that all roads leading to Bassian Kothi should be widened. He also said that the state government would be spending around Rs 6 crore for the restoration of this historical monument.
It was in the year 2011, when the state government engaged the services of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) for the restoration work.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included cabinet minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, advisor to CM Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal, special secretary to CM S Karuna Raju, Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Rajat Aggarwal, DIG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, former MLA Jagdev Singh Jassowal, former Housefed chairman Krishan Kumar Bawa, Hardyal Singh Aman, besides others.
