Chandigarh, November 13, 2015: The Punjab Chief Minister today reviewed the ongoing operations of paddy procurement, lifting and status of payment to the farmers at a meeting held with the senior officers of the state government here at CMO this morning.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that Mr.Badal expressed satisfaction over the smooth, hassle free paddy procurement as till date 130 Lac MT of Paddy had been procured in the state against the total 118 Lac MT of paddy procured during the previous year.
Reiterating his firm commitment over the swift paddy procurement, Mr.Badal said that every single grain of the crop would be lifted during the current procurement operations across the state and wherever there was tardy movement of lifting in few mandis, the Chief Minister directed the procurement agencies to pull up their socks to complete the entire operations positively by the end of this month. He also assured the farmers that the payment of their crop would be made to them within 48 hours. It was informed that so far the state has made payment of Rs. 14643 crores to the farmers for the procured paddy crop against due payment of Rs. 17000 crore. Regarding the position of lifting, the Chief Minister was apprised against 126 Lac MT, 118 Lac MT has been lifted so far.
Meanwhile, the Food & Civil Supplies Minister Mr. Adesh Partap Singh Kairon was personally overseeing the entire procurement operations and was in constant touch with all the heads of the procurement agencies to ensure prompt lifting and timely payment to the farmers.
        Giving the details, the Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. SK Sandhu informed the Chief Minister that   130 Lac MT of paddy has been procured till date. Out of the total paddy procured, 120.50 Lac MT (95.1%), was procured by the state government agencies and 3.20 Lac MT (2.7%) was procured by the private agencies. The Central government agency FCI procured 6.22 Lac MT (5%) of paddy till date.
            Meanwhile, Sangrur has emerged as the front runner district topping amongst all other districts in paddy procurement and Ludhiana was at second slot.
