Chandigarh, April 28, 2015: The Punjab Government today observed a state level function marking the world veterinary day. The function was organised in collaboration with Punjab state veterinary council. In his keynote address, the animal husbandry minister Gulzar Singh Ranike extended greetings to all the stake holders including veterinary doctors, veterinary scientists and veterinary teachers for their research methodologies which has brought a revolution in the field of dairy farming, poultry, piggery, fish farming etc.

He said that these subsidiary occupations has helped farmers to come out from the vivacious circle of wheat and paddy cultivation and substantially increased the income of the farmers. Dr. P.K. Uppal, Advisor animal husbandry department said that the scientist worldwide has been working to find cure of the deadly diseases prevailing in the livestock such as chicken gunia, bird flu, ebola etc. He said that the progress in finding the cure for all these diseases is commendable and the veterinary doctors and veterinary scientists must be credited for this task.

The theme for world veterinary day this year has been 'vector-borne diseases with the zoonotic potential'. Veterinary experts who read their research papers on this occasion including Dr. P.K. Kapoor, veterinary Hisar university, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, PGI Chandigarh, Dr. Ramneeq verma and Dr. B.B. Singh Dhaliwal from GADVASU Ludhiana.

Prominent among others who were present on the occasion included Mandeep Singh Sandhu, Financial Commissioner cum additional chief secretary, Dr. H.S.Sandha, Director animal husbandry besides 500 veterinary doctors, registered practitioners of the veterinary council and veterinary teachers were also present.
