2-Day Refresher Training Course Compulsory To Save Precious Lives In Case Of Road Accidents

Chandigarh, December 7, 2015: On the directions of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (Road Safety Cell) GOI , it is compulsory for drivers of heavy vehicles to undertake  2- day refresher course pertaining to road safety.
Disclosing this here today a spokesman of the Punjab Transport Department informed that Punjab Government has issued directions to undertake the refresher course in the state Institute of Automotive and Driving Skills, Mahoana, in District Sri Mukatsar Sahib.
He informed that Transport Department has issued directions regarding the same to all the District  Transport Officers in the state. He said that no fees is charged for this refresher training course instead the drivers are given accident insurance for Rs 1 lac, free medical checkup and an arrangement for boarding, lodging  and food for 2 days.
He further informed that similar driving training institutes are being set up by the state government in Gurdaspur, Kapurthala and Malerkotla. He said that with the setting up of these institutes the problem of heavy vehicle drivers to obtain training in Sri Mukatsar Sahib alone will be resolved.
He said that this  provision of  training by the Government  will go a long way in helping to curtain the loss of precious lives in road accidents.
