PUNJAB announces 1% quota for Cancer and AIDS victim students in technical education institutions

Chandigarh, July 22, 2013: The Punjab government has announced to provide 1% reservation to all Cancer and AIDS victims students in admissions at the Technical Education institutions across the state. This decision would be implemented from the current academic session.

Anil Joshi, Technical Education and industrial Minister, Punjab today said that the Punjab government has taken this decision to provide the equal opportunities to Cancer and AIDS victim students in study as well as to escape them from inferiority complex. He said that with this decision the students affected by Cancer and AIDS would be able to get 1% reservation at the time of admission in all the engineering colleges, polytechnics and ITIs. To get the benefit of reservation, candidates must have to produce the Cancer and AIDS related medical documents at the time of admission.

He said that private technical institutions have been urged to come forward to the help of victims of AIDS and cancer.  He said that the students suffering from these deadly diseases must be given equal opportunity to pursue their studies and the institutions should protect their fundamental rights in this regard. He said that any case of discrimination with the patients of these diseases in any institution would not be tolerated.
