Pulse Polio Prevention Drive from 2 to 6 April: DC, Ludhiana

Ludhiana, March 27, 2017: Deputy Commissioner Sh. Pradeep Kumar Agarwal has made an appeal to all the officials, co-operative non govt. institutions and personnel related to Pulse Polio Drive to make this drive a big success in the district in order to prevent any chances of the resurgence of polio transmission in our country (which has been declared polio free by the world health organization). Under this drive, all the children aged between 0-5 years will be administered oral polio vaccine. He expressed his views in his office in order to make pulse polio campaign successful while addressing the district level task force.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajiv Bhalla and District Immunization Officer Dr. Jasvir Singh told that this polio prevention drive will be in every city, village and home. They told that inspite of the fact that India has been declared as polio free country, our neighbouring countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan still has the symptoms of this disease. There is still the possibility of transmission of this disease in India and neighbouring countries from the above mentioned countries.

Deputy Commissioner Sh. Agarwal while agreeing with these made an appeal to the whole gathering that they should make people aware about the horrible consequences of this disease and to ensure the administering of polio drops to the children aged below 5 years. He instructed to cover all the slum areas, bus addas and other special places of the district so that no child should be left from administering oral polio vaccine.

It was told during the meeting that the programme is to cover all the rural and urban children of Ludhiana. This figure is near about 5,34,827, out of which 275715 children belong to the urban areas and 259112 children belong to the rural areas. To cover these children, 1432 teams have been formed. These also include 96 mobile and 110 transit teams. Besides 497 supervisors have also been appointed in order to make this campaign a successful one.

Health workers will visit door to door in the city Ludhiana and surrounding city areas of Sahnewal Block and Kum Kalan from 2 to 6 April. Polio Booths will be set up in C.H.C. Payal, Manupur, Machiwara, Malodh, Sudhar, Pakhowal, Hathoor and Sidhwan Bet on 2 April and on 3 and 4 April children will be administered oral polio vaccine by visiting door to door. In the same way on 2 April polio booths will be set up in Khanna, Jagraon, Samrala and Raikot and on 3 and 4 April, children will be administered oral polio vaccine by visiting door to door.

Sh. Agarwal made an appeal to all the officers and representatives of all the non govt. organizations to contribute in this drive of public welfare in order to provide a healthy and disease free society to the people. Senior Officials of related offices were also present in the meeting.
