PU Campus emerges as favourite destination for international students

Chandigarh: Panjab University (PU) Chandigarh Campus has emerged as a favourite destination for the international students.
In year 2015-16, 205 students of countries as far as USA, Canada, Brazil and Australia to neighbouring countries like Afghanistan, Bhutan and Nepal were studying in the PU, which is 40 percent higher than the year 2014-15.
PU Spokesperson said that the recent trend shows that the PU Campus at Chandigarh has emerged as a very popular study option among the international students. High quality education, job oriented courses and favourable study atmosphere has led to huge increase in number of the international students at the PU and the number of international students is increasing every year, PU Spokesperson added.
PU Spokesman informed that 146 international students from 15 countries were studying in Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh Campus in session 2014-15, which increased to 205 international students in session 2015-16. He said that various international rankings for PU in last three years have helped the PU in getting more attention at the global level. The number of enquiries from international students through e-mail and facebook about the admission schedule has significantly increased, he added.
PU Dean International Students Prof Deepti Gupta informed that in order to make a better career and future, the students from 19 countries like USA, UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Africa, Brazil, Italy, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Dubai, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam have chosen PU to study.
61 international students are studying in Ph.D, 53 are doing their Post Graduate studies and 91 are doing their graduation from the PU Campus. 205 international students were studying in the PU campus, while 295 are studying in different affiliated colleges of PU in Chandigarh.
The international students are pursuing Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D) in various departments like Anthropology, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Computer Science & Application, Laws, Economics, Education, Gandhian Studies, English and Cultural Studies Microbiology, Public Administration, Philosophy, Statistics, Urdu & Persian, UIET and Psychology.
BDS and BA LL.B/B.Com. LL.B has emerged as the big draw for international students pursuing bachelor degrees. Most of the international students in these courses are from Canada and USA. 28 international students each are studying Law from University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), 26 international students are doing Bachelors in Dental Sciences (BDS) from Dr. H S J Institute of Dental Sciences. 8 students are pursuing Bachelor of Pharmacy from UIPS, 4 students are doing under graduate courses from Economics and 3 students are doing Bachelor in Engineering from UIET.
In PU Campus, 53 international students are doing Post Graduation courses like MBA, M. Pharmacy, MA and LL.B. from departments like UBS, UIPS, Bio-Technology, Economics, Public Administration, Political Science, Sociology and 16 international students are studying Bachelor of Law from Department of Laws.
Maximum numbers of international students are from Canada (22), Iran (21), United States of America (USA) (13) and Afghanistan (13). Australia, United Kingdom (UK), Thailand, Myanmar, Brazil, Ethiopia, Nepal and Africa are some other countries, whose students are studying in PU campus. Out of 205 students pursuing education in PU campus, 69 of them are girls.
