Ludhiana, February 21, 2016: Shri Avtar Singh, President & Shri Upkar Singh Ahuja, General Secretary, Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU) in a joint statement released today said that the ongoing strike & protests by Haryana Jat Community for making reservations in jobs, has severely dented the business of the State of Punjab.

The president said that most of the business activities of Punjab are linked with Haryana & Delhi and thousands of the Traders and Businessmen travel from Punjab to Haryana & Delhi via Haryana Highways. But since for the last one week due to strikes, protests and clashes between the Reservation supporters & Security Forces have paralyzed all the business activities and the common man routine life.

The General Secretary – Shri Upkar Singh Ahuja stated that most of the Punjab Industry supply their auto components to number of Gurgaon & Faridabad based Vehicles Manufacturing Companies such as Honda 2 Wheelers, Honda Cars, Hero MotoCorp, Maruti Udyog, Escorts Tractors & JCB etc. Thus, this strike has led to approximately Rs.100 crore’s loss per day to Punjab Industry. Also the aforesaid strike in Haryana, has made serious dent to the said big automobile vehicles manufacturing companies’ production as the automotive components supplies from Punjab; is held up.

“Therefore, CICU urge upon and request to the Chief Minister – Shri Manohar Lal Khattar & the Central Government to find out an amicable solution to the strike immediately, otherwise, it will lead to further recession to productivity and already ailing trends of exports of Indian manufacturing & huge loss of revenues to Haryana, Punjab & to the national revenue as a whole”, said the CICU leaders.
