Chandigarh, May 5, 2017: Prof.Sukhbir Kaur, Chairperson, Zoology, PU Chandigarh Joins as the President of The Indian Society of Parasitology.

Prof.Sukhbir Kaur, Chairperson, Department of Zoology, Panjab University Chandigarh got unanimously Elevated to the Pivotal Position of the President of the 'Indian Society of Parasitology-ISP'. This decision was taken in the General Body Meeting of
the Society during the 27th Annual Congress of the Society that was held (from 25-27 April, 2017) at NIMHANS, Bangalore. Prof. Sukhbir Kaur took over this important Assignment in Bangalore and will remain on the position for a period of 2 years.

The Society (ISP) was Established in 1973 under the Societies Act XXI, 1860, The Indian Society for Parasitology (ISP) has the major objectives of bringing Parasitologists of different disciplines under one umbrella to advance knowledge in this vital area concerning human and animal health through regular annual conferences/CMEs and thematic workshops.

Professor Sukhbir Kaur joined the Department of Zoology directly as Reader in 1998 and became Professor in 2006 and has put in 19 Years of faculty Service at PU Chandigarh.

She has specialised in Parasitology from PGIMER, Chandigarh and did her PhD under the mentorship of the World Renowned Parasitologists/microbiologists: Professor R.C.Mahajan and Prof. N.K. Ganguly who also remained Presidents of this Elite National scientific society way back in 1989 and 1997 respectively.

Professor Sukhbir has a large number of research projects and international publications. Professor Sukhbir is very active in teaching and research and is leading a large group of PhD and MSc students. She is on a large number of expert panel of various scientific bodies: notably DST- SERB, UGC and DST-FIST and many others.
