Ludhiaan, November 8, 2016: Prof.(Dr.) F C Eggleston passed away on 7th November, 2016 in USA. He was 96 years.
Dr.Eggleston came to India in December 1953 as a Surgeon and one of the qualified Thoracic Surgeons. He was attached to CMC & Hospital at Ludhiana and the Tb Sanatorium at Jubar, Kasauli Hills. He became Head of Surgery Department in 1955 and was the architect of Surgery Department in CMCL and a pioneer in residential form of Post Graduate training where the post graduate candidates got the most of practical training in surgery. He has trained more than 100 Post graduate’s working in India and around the world. The department of surgery at CMCL was one of the best in the region due to untiring effort of Dr. Eggleston.
Dr. Eggleston was also the Director of CMCL from 1982 to 1986 before retiring and moving over to Mechanicsburg, Philadelphia, USA. He was one of the founders of the North Zone Chapter of Association of Surgeons of India (ASI). He has published numerous articles on his research work and also introduced Vascular Surgery & Thoracic Surgery in the region. Late Dr. L H Lobo was his first MS post Graduate. The Post Graduates trained by Dr. Eggleston are doing excellent work in India and all over the world.
He has through his skills and compassionate profile, won the hearts of many of the citizens of Punjab & the region.
Mrs. Eggleston passed away 12 years ago. Dr. Eggleston is survived by his son, Robert Eggleston who is in USA, said Dr. Abraham G Thomas, Director, CMC, Ludhiana on Tuesday.
