Jalandhar, April 20, 2015: The President of the Republic of Mauritius, Rajeswur Prayag is presently visiting India along with his wife to attend the convocation ceremony at Lovely Professional University, Punjab. After landing at Amritsar International Airport on Sunday morning, the President went to pay obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib in the afternoon along with Ashok Mittal, Chancellor, LPU. He went for the parikrma and listened to the kirtan for some time. He was presented a Siropa by the SGPC. He said he had heard a lot about Sri Harmandir Sahib and is feeling happy and at peace today after paying obeisance.

Speaking to media, President Purryag said that both India and Mauritius had long lasting cordial relations and will remain so in future also. He said both the nations enjoy many similarities between each other. An Indo-Mauritian, he remembered his great grandfather Lakshman Paryag who sailed to Mauritius some 150 years ago. Later, the President visited Durgiana Mandir also.

Purryag also went to watch the famous beating the retreat ceremony at Attari-Wagah Joint Check Post. Officiating Deputy Inspector General, BSF, I.P. Bhatia conducted his visit to the border. Perhaps Purryag became the first ever non-Indian president to visit Wagah. He is going to spend next three day at LPU to attend the convocation ceremony on 20th and 21st April. During his stay he will also be visiting the Science City, Kapurthala and other important locations in Jalandhar district.
