Practising advocates must maintain dignity of profession: Justice Bedi

Chandigarh, November 9, 2015: Besides Judiciary, the law graduates have a number of opportunities in different fields. The advocates must have zeal for the profession apart from being hardworking, thick skinned polite with his clients, advised Justice MMS Bedi, from Punjab and Haryana High court. Justice Bedi was addressing budding advocates, enrolled with the Bar Council of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, at a function organized by the Bar Council for the distribution of enrolment certificates at Law Bhavan, Sector 37, here today.
Justice Bedi also asked, the new entrants in the profession, to start the second phase of their lives with a new chapter that is never taught in class  rooms but is practiced under an able guide and mentor in the field.
He said that advocates are the Officers of the Court and have duties towards the Court, client and society as well. The plasticizing advocates must maintain the dignity of the profession and not run after money but deliver services to his cline in sincerity, said Justice Bedi.
He asked the new entrants to develop a habit of thorough reading of judgments, related to their cases, for helping the clines get justice. “Without knowledge you will not be acknowledged,” said Justice Bedi.
He also appealed the gathering to participate in extra curricular activities for a healthy and stress free body to enjoy family live along with this tough profession.
Earlier, Mr. Rajat Gautam, chairman of Bar Council of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, while sharing his experiences, asked the newly enrolled advocates to follow the principal of ‘RICE to RISE”. He said that main aim to organized the function was to make them aware of the importance of the profession and their duties towards the Court, judges, clients and the society as a whole.
Mr. Lekh Raj Sharma, former chairman of the Bar council, also asked the certificate holders to following the rules and regulations of the bar Council of India during their practice.
Over 340 newly enrolled advocates, who had come from across Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh also took the oath administered by justice Bedi. Apart from the officer bearers of the Bar Council of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, Mr CM Munjal, Chairman Executive Committee, Mr Jaiveer Yadav, chairman, enrollment committee, Mr  Partap Singh, chairman, All India, Bar Council Exam, and Mr Parvesh Yadav, Honorary Secretary Bar Council, were also present.
