Potential raise in MSP of crops shows Modi government’s commitment to improve lot of farmers: Tarun Chugh
Chandigarh, June 4, 2019: The Bharatiya Janata Party has hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government’s decision to raise the Minimum Support Price of various Kharif crops. Tarun Chugh, the national secretary of the party, said the pro-farmer decision shows that Prime Minister was committed to improve the lot of farmers. “PM Modi means what he says. He had committed a potential increase in the income of farmers and to improve their standard of living and the recent decision proves that he would do each and everything possible to honour the promises he made to the farmers and farm labourers,” Chugh said. Chugh said the recent decision has come as a big relief for the farming community. “A raise of Rs.65 per quintal in the MSP of Paddy, Rs.120 per quintal for Jowar, Rs.253 per quintal for ‘Raungi’, Rs. 125 per quintal for ‘Toor’, Rs. 75 in ‘Moong’, Rs. 100 in ‘Urad’, Rs. 200 in ‘Moongfali’, Rs. 311 in Soyabean, Rs. 100 per quintal in Cotton,” has been announced. The BJP leader said that the government was moving towards its promise to facilitate a substantial increase in the income of farmers by 2022. Chugh said the Prime Minister was also committed to provide Rs.6,000 per annum as ‘Kisan Samman Nidhi’ to the farmers which would be directly transferred to their bank accounts. He said the farmers of the country were being benefitted by the schemes initiated by Prime Minister Modi which include schemes like ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasasl Beema Yojana’ and ‘Pradhanmantri Sinchai Priyojna. Besides this the government has a plan to provide new and practical technology to farmers to enhance their income. He said that the government was in fact moving towards freeing the farmers from the burden of debt which has been haunting them for long because of impractical policies of the UPA.
