UNDER THIS PROJECT, CNG TO BE SUPPLIED TO AUTOMOTIVE CUSTOMERS & NG SUPPLY TO COMMERCIAL & INDUSTRIAL CENTRES

Ludhiana, November 23, 2018: To check increasing pollution levels in the city, Piped Natural Gas supply to the city would start soon and a pipeline for this purpose is already near completion in the district. Under this project, piped natural gas would be supplied to households for cooking and other domestic uses, CNG to auto-rickshaws, cars, taxis, buses and other commercial vehicles, while natural gas (NG) to industries and commercial establishments.

Deputy Commissioner Mr Pardeep Kumar Agrawal informed that a network of pipelines would be laid across the district to connect households and commercial establishments (hotels, hospitals, malls, universities, schools etc.) to supply piped natural gas (PNG). He informed that the laying of pipeline in this regard is near completion, and this service would start in the district soon.

He stated that introducing compressed natural gas (CNG), an environment-friendly automobile fuel that is considered cheaper than diesel, will be of great benefit to city residents as the fuel from here will be supplied to industries as well. CNG will help check pollution levels of the city, as industry based on coal will shift to CNG and a total of four CNG pumps will be set up in Ludhiana.

Natural gas is a cleaner and economical alternative to the fuels currently being used for cooking, heating, transportation and industrial production. Over a period of 25 years, natural gas is expected to save approximately 11.2 million tons of carbon dioxide across these 9 districts. This is roughly equivalent to planting 22 million trees. Further, access to piped gas for cooking will reduce indoor pollution – a leading cause of respiratory diseases in India.
