Ludhiana, February 10, 2015: PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry and National Productivity Council jointly with SIDBI, Ludhiana & Conrad-Adenauer-Foundation of Germany organised a workshop on ‘Lean Manufacturing Competitiveness for Textile Industry’ here on Tuesday.
Gurmeet Singh Kular, Chairman-Ludhiana, PHD Chamber welcomed all the participants and the guests from the textile industry on the occasion and mentioned that among all the industries in Ludhiana, textile industry is the most important and the backbone of Ludhiana’s economy and strengthening the same is the key to economic prosperity in the region.
S.P. Singh, Deputy Director, NPC and Kamal Singh, Director, MSME, Ludhiana, discussed in details the guidelines of LMCS scheme MSE-Cluster Development Programme of the Ministry of MSME.
S.B. Singh, Lean Consultant & MD Taaran Industries, while explaining the concerns of the Industry consisting of delayed deliveries, threat from competition, rising customer complaints, pressure on margins, and longer cast to cash cycles said we can make rapid improvements in the industrial units through implementations of Lean Tools and Techniques like 5 S, Kaizen, TPM, SMED, mistake proofing techniques. He apprised participants that by eliminating the seven types of waste: Overproduction, Inventory, unnecessary motion, Transportation, rework, over-processing, waiting time can improve business processes drastically. He shared various case studies and explained in detail about the Lean Techniques supplied and adopted by various industrial units which improved their overall profits significantly.
To help MSMEs adopt energy efficiency measures to save electricity cost,  Rajiv Kumar, DGM, SIDBI & CEO, India SME Technology Services Ltd. appraised participants on the end to end industrial energy efficiency solution intervention of SIDBI. They assured their support in implementation by way of assistance in identification of vendors for Energy Efficiency Equipments/ Technologies including installation & commissioning.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Rimneet Kaur, Resident Manager, PHD Chamber. 
The Seminar was attended by more than 30 industry members from Ludhiana.
