Pension for construction labourers on anvil: Chunni Lal Bhagat

Chandigarh, November 6, 2013: The Punjab government is all set to launch a pension scheme in collaboration with LIC for the labourers of tha state.
This was disclosed by Chunni Lal Bhagat while presiding over a meeting of labour department here today. He said that The construction laboures registered with the Punjab Building and Construction Workers Welfare Board since five years would be eligible to get pension after attaining the age of 60 years from Rs.4,000 to Rs. 10,000 per year. He said that the Punjab government is committed for the overall welfare of the labourers. In this direction the government has been framing various policies and schemes to uplift the living standard of the labourers.
The Minister further said that the spouse of the deceased labourer would also be eligible to claim 50% of the pension. In case of 100% disability the effected labourer would also get the benefits of pension.
Bhagat further said that after completing 5 years of registration labourer would be distributed Rs. 4000 per annum Similarly Rs. 6000 after 10 years, Rs. 8000 after the 15 years and Rs. 10000 per annum after the completion of 20 years or more. He added that Rs. 2000 as family pension would also be given to the spouse of the deceased labourer who expires after one year of registration.
He said that more than 1.5 lac construction workers are registered with the Punjab Building and Construction Workers Welfare Board and government is trying to bring more labourers under the ambit of welfare board.
