PAU STARTS AWARENESS CAMPAIGN ON JAL SUTRA

Ludhiana, March 3, 2017: The Department of Extension Education and Communication Management, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), started an awareness campaign "Jal Sutra" in the village Sandhua, Ropar. The campaign has been organized under the Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, sponsored project “Social marketing of water saving technologies to mitigate the effects of climate change.” A rally and street plays, highlighting the problem of groundwater depletion in the state, were organized. Awareness was created among villagers about various water saving technologies developed by PAU. Around 150 students of Government High School and Jawahar Navodaya School, village Sandhua, participated in the rally. Street play on 'Judicious use of water' was staged by the first year students of College of Home Science, PAU. This campaign will be followed by two-day training on “Water saving technologies at agricultural and household level” in which scientists from PAU and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar will act as resource persons. Lectures and demonstrations will also be organized. Few technologies like use of flexi pipes for irrigation and use of dual button flush tanks were distributed among villagers for demonstration purposes.

Dr Preeti Sharma, Principal Investigator of the project, told that similar campaign was organized at Ludhiana and another campaign will be organized at Faridkot district.
