PAU Expresses Grief Over Sad Demise Of Dr.Raghbir Singh

Ludhiana, November 5, 2015: Dr.Raghbir Singh, who worked as Secretary to Dr.P.N.Thapar, the Founder Vice Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University, expired yesterday at his residence in Chandigarh. Later, he served as Head, Department of Extension Education, PAU from 1973 to 1978 after completing doctorate degree from USA. Earlier, he had obtained Master degree from USA. His students are working with distinction at national and international levels.
 
Dr.B.S.Dhillon, Vice Chancellor, PAU, while expressing grief over his demise, said Dr.Singh was known for his conceptual clarity of theory and principles of agricultural development process and programmes. He contributed significantly towards establishing links of the university with the farming community and streamlining its administrative, research, teaching and extension set up. His death was condoled by the faculty and PG students of the Department of Extension Education and also by the PAU Kisan Club in separate meetings held here today.
 
Dr.S.S.Gill, Former Director of Extension Education, recalled many lessons learnt from Dr.Singh during the initial years of his career at PAU.
 
Dr.Jaswinder Singh Bhalla, present Head, Deptt. of Extension Education who was his student during M.Sc. degree, said that as a teacher he was a hard task master, but as a human being, he had a soft corner for everybody and his advise was ever available when needed. Besides his wife, Dr.Raghbir Singh is survived by his two children, a son and a daughter, who are working as Senior Professors in USA.
