Ludhiana, June 2, 2015: The Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD) has opposed the move of the health ministry to hold compulsory exit test for the MBBS graduates. It is the job of the Medical Council of India (MCI) to ensure that permission is granted to only those medical colleges which meet the basic minimum criteria to be able to provide quality education. But ironically the government is shying away from its responsibility to provide health and education. Most of the new medical colleges are coming up in the private sector and lack the facilities. On the other hand government has not increased funding to its own colleges as per the present day developments.

Dr L S Chawla – President IDPD who has been Chairman of the PG committee of the MCI said that the council should hold repeated uninformed inspections of the colleges to judge the real status prevailing therein. He elaborated that many of these mushroomed colleges do not have full time faculty because of which the training of the students suffers.

Dr Arun Mitra General Secretary IDPD said that the students should not be burdened with another exam because of the fault and callousness of the institutions responsible to ensure equity among the medical colleges.
