PAU conferred with prestigious awards for two publications during 26th Indian Convention of Food Scientists and Technologists

Ludhiana, December 13, 2017: The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has been conferred with prestigious awards for two publications during the 26th Indian Convention of Food Scientists and Technologists (ICFoST), held at CSIR- Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad, on December 7. The decision to award these coveted honours was taken by The Central Executive Committee of Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India), AFST (I), which unanimously approved the recommendations of the expert panel. The paper “Functional properties of pasta enriched with variable cereal brans,” authored by Gurkirat Kaur, Savita Sharma, H.P.S. Nagi and Basharat N. Dar, has won “Journal of Food Science and Technology Most Cited Research Paper Award 2016” amongst the research papers published during the last five years. The paper was published in the Journal of Food Science and Technology and well-received by the scientists of the field. Earlier, this publication also received the Journal of Food Science and Technology Best Paper Award 2012. Continuing with winning streak, another article “Food industry by-products: Functional ingredients for value added products,” authored by Rajan Sharma, Kripa Seth, Savita Sharma and Baljit Singh and published in Indian Food Industry, has received the citation of being “IFI Best Feature Article 2016.” Both the works were conducted under the guidance of Prof Savita Sharma, Department of Food Science and Technology. The main objective of AFST(I) is to enhance the high standard of technical competence, professional expertise and personal integrity to strengthen the profession of food science and technology. Rajan Sharma received the awards.

Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU and Dr (Mrs) Neelam Grewal, Dean, Postgraduate Studies, congratulated the scientists and the students of PAU.

Dr Poonam A. Sachdev, Head, Department of Food Science and Technology, PAU, said awarding such accolades provides an impetus to the progression and dissemination of scientific knowledge.
