PAU Bags Sponsored Research Project On Paddy Straw Management

Ludhiana, January 25, 2016: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research has awarded the Punjab Agricultural University with a research project worth Rs 46 lacs on paddy straw management entitled “Design and evaluation of forced draft paddy straw bale combustor technology for efficient biomass utilization applied to greenhouse climate control in winter for higher crop productivity”. Later on this technology could also be applied for heating of cattle sheds, animal shelters and home and office buildings during peak winters in North India.

 

This would help in efficient management of tones of paddy straw biomass for useful heating purposes rather than wasteful burning in the fields by farmers, as is currently the trend.
