PAU Agronomist Dr Gurmeet Singh Buttar bags excellence award

Ludhiana, March 3, 2015: Dr Gurmeet Singh Buttar, Head, Department of Agronomy, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has been conferred with the prestigious “CSSRI Excellence Award” in soil salinity and water management. ICAR-Central Soil Salinity Research Institute (CSSRI), Karnal presented the award to Dr Buttar for his outstanding research contributions to the field of salinity and agricultural water management. The award, carrying a certificate, plaque and a cash prize of Rs 21000, was presented by Dr A.K. Sikka, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management), ICAR, on the occasion of Foundation Day of CSSR, Karnal, on March 1, 2015. CSSRI is a premier research institute engaged in research on reclamation and developing technologies for sustaining productivity of saline soils and water.

Dr Buttar has made significant contributions to agricultural research, teaching and extension. He has been instrumental in the development of 42 new recommendations / innovations on various field crops, fruits and vegetables for the benefit of the state farmers. Dr Buttar is also a recipient of many prestigious state as well as national level awards such as Chaudhary Devi Lal Award (2008); Punjab Government Parman Patra (2010); FAI-Dhiru Morarji Award (2013) and Distinguished Scientist Award (2013). He has also been awarded the fellowships of Cotton Research and Development Association (2007), Indian Water Resources Society (2008), Indian Society of Agronomy (2009) and National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (2014).
