Chandigarh, August 4, 2016: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh today hosted a lecture cum workshop on Dengue and Malaria Awareness at PU Senate Hall. The workshop was co-organized by PU and UT Health Department.
Anti Malaria Officer at UT Department of Health Dr. Gaurav along with a team of doctors and supporting staff from the UT health departments participated in the workshop. Dean Students Welfare (DSW) Women Prof Nandita Singh, Dr. Rakesh Khullar from PU Health Centre, wardens of boys and girls hostels participated in the workshop. Dr. Gaurav delivered a lecture on prevention of vector born diseases with special emphasis on malaria and dengue.
DSW Women Prof Nandita Singh called upon the wardens and students to play an active role in this awareness drive. The technical staff gave a practical demonstration about breeding of diseases causing mosquitoes. All the participants were shown the larvae and mosquitoes, which cause malaria and dengue. There was active participation by all the participants in the questions answers session at the end.
In his talk, Dr Gaurav laid special emphasis on prevention of malaria and dengue and enumerated various measures which can help in prevention of mosquitoes born diseases like cleaning of overhead tanks, proper collection and disposal of garbage, avoiding collection of water in flower pots, once in a week cleaning of desert cooler etc. One should wear full sleeve clothes during the months of July and August, he added.
Dr. Gaurav informed that the regular fogging operations would start at PU from tomorrow and cover all the boys and girls hostel. On behalf of the UT Administration Health Department, he offered all kind of help needed by the PU in preventing the mosquitoes menace. He also advocated growing of lemon grass as a preventive measure.
NSS, NCC, Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan volunteers and the students of Department of Public Health would educate the students and the residents about the vector born diseases prevention.
