Chandigarh October 20, 2016: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh and University of Wuerzburg, Germany today signed a Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) for student, researchers and faculty exchange programmes in all the departments of the two renowned institutions of India and Germany.
University of Wuerzburg is a well-known University of Germany. As many as 14 Nobel laureates have worked there during different stages of their careers, including Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen, who discovered the X-rays in Wurzburg. Incidentally, the President of the University Prof.Dr.Alfred Forchel is also Condensed Matter Physicist like the PU
Vice Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover.
Earlier, PU and University of Wuerzburg had signed a MoU in April, 2016 according to which the Departments of Economics and Political Science entered into student, researchers and faculty exchange programmes between the two Universities. Over the
previous six months several departments expressed their interest in mutual academic collaboration and joint supervision of Ph.D. between the two Universities.
The cooperation between the Julius-Maximilians- University of Würzburg (JMU), represented by its President, Professor Dr. Alfred Forchel, and the University of Panjab (PU), represented by its PU Vice Chancellor, Professor Arun Kumar Grover was
expanded today to include all the departments of both the institutions.
The contact person at PU would be Professor of Economics Prof. Upinder Sawhney and at JMU will be Prof. Dr. Ing Phuoc Tran-Gia, Vice President, International Relations. This will facilitate academic interaction between the two Universities.
Speaking on the occasion Prof. Dr. Jurgen Kreft informed that the cooperation would be further extended under the DAAD: A New Passage to India Programme. Under the DAAD, an innovative exchange programme, administered by the German Academic Exchange Service, the University of Würzburg has been granted a Wurzburg Centre for Modern India and Mobility Programme. The programme has been extended upto December 2017, he added.
PU Vice Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover informed that the two universities have agreed to explore and work on modalities of joint Ph.D supervision of research students. Students of both the universities would get benefited with this MoU, he
added.
Director Research Programme Prof OP Katare, Prof. Upinder Sawhney, Prof V.K. Jindal, Prof Sanjeev Puri, Secretary to VC Col. PS Sandhu and Director Public Relations Mr.Vineet Punia were also present on the occasion.
