Panchkula capable to get status of Smart City: Kavita Jain

Chandigarh, March 15, 2016: Haryana Urban Local Bodies Minister Mrs Kavita Jain said that Panchkula was capable to get the status of a Smart City and hoped that it would be included in the list of Smart Cities project of Central government in the second phase. She said that the city was a contender for the same in first phase, but could not find a place in the list of Smart Cities. Therefore, the matter regarding delay caused in sending its nomination to the Central Government would be examined and action would be taken against the defaulters.
Mrs Jain was replying to a supplementary question asked by MLA Mr Gian Chand Gupta during ongoing session of Vidhan Sabha here today.
The Minister informed the House that two cities namely Faridabad and Karnal have been shortlisted under the Central Government’s smart city mission to be developed as Smart Cities. The State government had decided that Gurgaon would also be developed as a smart city. She said that funds for Faridabad and Karnal were to be shared by the State and Central Governments in the ratio of 50:50 with Government of India funding limited to Rs 500 crores each. The entire cost for Gurgaon would be jointly shared by State Government and Municipal Corporation, Gurgaon, she added./ (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
