PAMETI Imparts Training In Role Of ICTs

Ludhiana, December 11, 2015: The Punjab Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (PAMETI) organized a workshop on the “Role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in Dissemination of Agricultural Information” at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). A total of 28 participants from state agriculture and allied departments participated.

Dr H. S. Dhaliwal, Director, PAMETI said, “Through ICTs, an agricultural extension worker can learn new technologies, weather forecasts, commodity prices etc. and use that information for farmers’ advisory in rural areas.” He motivated the participants to adopt ICTs so that the gap between knowledge generation and its dissemination to the grassroot level may be reduced.

During the workshop, participants were imparted knowledge on various ICTs, their importance and role in sharing agricultural information.

S. Navdeep Singh, Program Executive, All India Radio FM Gold, Ludhiana explained the role of radio in broadcasting farm information to the farmers.

Dr Anil Sharma, Assistant Director (TV), CCIL, PAU and Dr M. S. Toor, Professor of Economics (retd.) gave practical tips on creating short video films and photography, respectively.

Mr A K Chawla, State Manager, IFFCO Kisan Sanchar Limited interacted with the trainees and shared his experience about Kisan Call Center and other extension services, being provided by IIFCO to farmers through mobile phones.

An exposure visit to Kisan Call Center and The Tribune, Chandigarh was also organized. S. Megha Singh, Assistant Editor, Punjabi Tribune motivated the extension officers to write articles for the benefit of the farmers. Participants also visited Language and Communication Lab at PAU.
