Paddy procurement on

Chandigarh, October 12, 2012: Paddy Procurement is on full swing in Punjab. Government agencies and private millers procured more than 1481454  tonnes of paddy till last evening. The State Government has set up more than 1770  procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of paddy

 The spokesman of the Punjab government said that Out of total procurement of 1481454  tonnes of paddy in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 1209928 tonnes of paddy till date whereas private traders procured 271526 tonnes of paddy. Till October 11, PUNGRAIN procured 315083  tonnes (26.0%), MARKFED procured 279012  tonnes (23.1%). whereas PUNSUP had procured 276955 tonnes (22.9%) PSWC procured 107650  tonnes (8.9%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 127785  tonnes (10.6%) of paddy.The Central Government agency FCI had  been able to procure 103439  tonnes (8.5%). 

          The spokesman added that District Tarn Taran with 274435 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Ferozpur with 181656 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Jalandhar with 166557  tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
