Jalandhar, November 22, 2014:  Member of Parliament & Former Lok Sabha Speaker PA (Purno Agitok) Sangma inaugurated two-day Pharmacy Conference at Lovely Professional University today. This, 29th annual conference of Indian Pharmacy Graduates’ Association in collaboration with LPU is being organised by LPU Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The theme of the conference is “Emerging Opportunities in Pharmacy Profession. During six scientific sessions of the conference, eminent national researchers in the field presented their illustrious research papers for the benefit of global society. MLA Meghalaya Conrad Sangma was also present on the occasion.
Congratulating both the organizing bodies of the conference, the Chief Guest PA Sangma praised university set up and massive conference arrangements open heartedly. Being greatly impressed with the vibrancy at LPU, MP Sangma said: “Encouraged to see the great efforts at LPU, PM Modi’s impressive endeavours in foreign countries and as per my perceptions thereof; I am confident in saying that in Asia 21st Century belongs to India.” Addressing students in particular, he said: “Under the great vision of your university, you have great opportunities to grab.  India has growth in many sectors including pharmaceutical, hospitality, tourism, IT sectors and more. However, we need to identify sectors which are to grow. At present, great attention to Innovativeness, Research & Development is a must for which LPU has already embarked upon. Now, students are required to play an important role in building a self-sufficient India. With the growth of India we all will grow, and for that we all should be a support for such a change.”
Interacting with the students he told that mismatch between job-market and education has to be connected. He also made students feel proud by saying that India is mighty and powerful country and has great capacity to defend itself. Meghalaya MLA Conrad also interacted with students and talked about corruption issues, working culture in government and more. In all Conrad was also all praise for the best set up of the university, its management and even wished to be a student at LPU in spite of his being educated at prestigious foreign universities.
Welcoming the great politicians of the country, LPU Chancellor Ashok Mittal thanked them for their being generous to visit the University. Speaking high about the elite guests, Mittal informed: “I am happy to share that our pharmacy students and faculty actively participate in research to remain at the cutting edge. Students from the department have already filed a number of national and international patents. Many of our alumni hold prominent positions in industry and academia both in India and abroad.” Mittal also stressed on the strong implementation of Ayurvedic Pharmacy. The multi-faceted guests also interacted with the students of North Eastern states studying at LPU, who hail from their constituencies. 
Resource persons during scientific sessions from across the country are Dr Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, Dr M S Rao, Dr Manish Grover, Dr Dhirender Tayal, Dr Rajesh Sharma and Dr Atul Nasa. In addition to many research papers being presented at the conference, more than 100 poster presentations are covering different thrust areas including Pharmaceutical Technology, Biotechnology, Drug Delivery, Herbal Technology and more.
Illustrative, Indian Pharmacy Graduates' Association (IPGA) is affiliated to the Indian Pharmaceutical Congress Association (IPCA)- the federal body of the 5 pharmacy associations. The prime mission of the association is to improve the professional status of pharmacy graduates and to secure their rightful position in the Pharmacy and other allied professions.
