Outstanding Sportspersons Honoured in Khalsa College

Jalandhar, April 30, 2015; Player students of Lyallpur Khalsa College who performed outstandingly at national and international level and who contributed to winning of the Overall Sports Trophy of Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar were honoured today in Lyallpur Khalsa College. In a brief function held in the college campus Chief Guest Dr. HS Randhawa Director Sports. And Guest of Honour Dr. Kanwar Mandeep Singh Assistant Director Sports gave prizes to the achievers.

In his address to the students the chief guest said that promotion of sports was the need of the hour to prevent the youth today from the perils of evils like drug abuse. He informed the present that the university had raised the appreciation money to its students for winning international gold medal to Rs. One lac and that new sports infrastructure was being raised at the university for achieving excellence in sports. 

Speaking on the occasion the college Principal Dr. GS Samra said that the name of Lyallpur Khalsa College was synonymous with sports. Offering a variety of 43 games to choose from to its students, the college had won the over sports championship of the university 13 times in last 15 years, out of which 11 times the win was consecutive. He added that the college players formed a sizable part of the university contingent participating in intervarsity competitions. 

Welcoming the guests the College Dean Sports Dr. SS Bains enumerated the sports achievements of the college.

The president of the College Governing Council Sardarni Balbir Kaur congratulated the students and the staff on this achievement and reiterated the commitment of the college to quality education and sports.

Vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Jaspal Singh Head of the College Sports Department. On this occasion, philanthropist S. Mohinder Singh whose ancestors donated land for the college in its beginning at Lyallpur Faisalabad in Pakistan announced a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 for the outstanding sports-persons of the college.

The stage on the occasion was conducted by Prof .Tarsem Singh.
