140 students of UHF attending the week-long camp

The annual seven-day National Service Scheme (NSS) camp kick-started at the Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni. Around 140 third-year students of B Sc Horticulture and B Sc Forestry programmes at the university are taking part in the camp.

The NSS camp is also a part of the social outreach activity of the university. During the camp, students will take part in a variety of social activities at Nauni gram panchayat, under which the University campus also falls.

The Student Welfare Officer Dr SK Gupta, Programme Officers Dr Tara Gupta, Dr Rashmi Chaudhary and Dr Chandresh Guleria attended the inaugural session. Baldev Singh Thakur, Pradhan of Nauni Panchayat also took part in the event.

During the interaction session with the students, the volunteers were motivated to develop a sense of social and civic responsibility and work towards national integration and social harmony.

Explaining about the camp, Dr SK Gupta said, “The volunteers will be assisting the panchayat workers in the construction of check dams to prevent soil erosion. In addition, they will also undertake cleanliness and weeding drive at public parks and village pathways.”

He added that the students will also carry out plantation activities in the villages falling under the panchayat.
