A Speaker addressing on concluding day of NSICON-2014 at DMCH, Ludhiana on Saturday.

Ludhiana, November 8, 2014: The concluding day of NSICON-2014 began with Young Scientist’s Awards Session with chairpersons including Dr V Prakash, Dr Kanta Sharma and Dr PL Gautam. It was followed by poster session, where the participants depicted issues pertaining to nutrition in a very creative and interesting manner. Dr Anura V Karpad from St.John’s National Academy of Health Sciences, Bangalore delivered Srikantia Memorial lecture on Poverty and State of Protein Nutrition in India.
Organising Secretary-Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina said that the three-day conference has been quite fruitful in disseminating information about role of nutrition in improving public health and also stressing on avoiding the use of junk food, which creates plenty of health problems. The conference was well attended by around 600 delegates from across the country, informed Dr Chhina. 
Dr BK Anand Memorial Award was given to Dr Prema Ramachanddran. Professor G Subbulakshmi from SNDT University Mumbai, delivered 5th Rajammal P Devadas Memorial lecture on ‘Farm Foods and Pharma Foods’
Symposium on ‘New Nutritional Concepts in Foetal Programming’ was also held during which Dr Vandana Jain from AIIMS, New Delhi and Dr M Raghunath from Hyderabad delivered lectures on ‘Recent Advances in Mechanism of Foetal Programming’ and ‘Development Programming for adult onset diseases: Role of maternal micronutrient status and associated Mechanisms’ respectively. Dr Sukhinder Kaur Cheema from Canada spoke on ‘Mother’s Dietary fat Intake and cardiovascular health of the next generation’
The post-lunch symposium on ‘Nutrition, Metabolism and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)’ was held, during which speakers elaborated on the topics pertaining to ‘Vitamin B12 deficiency in India’, ‘Lactose Intolerance in Health & Disease’ and ‘Nutritional and Processing Interventions for developing Animal based health food’
The conference got concluded with impressive Valedictory function including vote of thanks and distribution of certificates and momentos to the delegates and organizers.
