NRI Police Wing to hold disputes redressal sammelans at district level: IGP Gurpreet Deo

Phillaur, February 10, 2014: Punjab NRI Police Wing to hold Disputes Redressal Sammelans at district level in the state to redress complaints regarding NRI’s at the nearest places of their residences in Punjab. Disclosing this IGP Gurpreet Kaur Deo after giving personal hearing to all complaints received during the NRI Disputes Redressal Samellan held here today at Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur said that there was huge response for this kind of initiative of the Punjab government.
IGP Deo said that 150 complaints from17 countries were received during the sammelan which included Canada-60, USA-25, UK-19, NewZealand-5, Australia-12, Italy- 8, Norway-1, Denmark,-1, Germany-7, Greece-2, Uganda-2, Kenya-1, Malaysia-3, Portguse-1, UAE-1, Kuwait-1 and Dubai-1. She added that most of the complaints were related to property- 77 and marital- 52 disputes. There were also some complaints regarding frauds-14 and others-13.
Talking to the media persons after the sammelan IGP Deo said that all these complaints would be disposed off within the period of one month and she instructed the Police Officers to deal with all complaints in a fair and transparent manner so that timely justice could be provided.  
IGP Deo said that only 27 fresh complaints were received during the sammelan and other cases were related to earlier complaints. She added that all complainants were herd carefully and were assured that their cases would be dealt on merit and timely justice would be provided. She also said that some cases were solved at the spot in the presence of both the parties.
She further said that special help desk was setup to provide counseling to the women facing marital disputes with the NRI’s. An expert team of Dr. SC Gupta Director International Union for Health Promotion and Education Punjab Chapter & former Head Department of Health  Education CMC, Ludhiana, Renu Bhasin Coordinator Research & Senior officer International Union for Health Promotion & Education, Ludhiana, Lakhbir Kaur, Research Fellow, Dr. Amanpreet Kaur PAU Ludhiana and Ms. Lavjit Kaur Research Associate, PAU and other experts from Panjab University and Punjab Agriculture University provided counseling to all the women facing marital disputes. Property disputes were also heard during the sammelan and senior officers of the Revenue officers present on the occasion provided special assistance in redressing such cases.
IGP Gurpreet Deo said that Punjab Government has setup an online system to register complaints of NRI’s in a transparent and timely manner and also developed a unique id system so that complainant could see the status of the complaint online.
