NIIFT STUDENTS ONCE AGAIN SHOWCASED THEIR CREATIVITY
Ludhiana, May 22, 2019: The occasion was ‘Anukama 2019’, the annual design collection show of Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology (NIIFT) Ludhiana. NIIFT Students took the stage by storm this evening to showcase the 92 hands-on beautiful collections created by the graduating Fashion Design and Fashion Design (Knits) students. NIIFT is ranked 9th amongst the top 10 Fashion Design colleges of the country and also has been declared as a centre of excellence for apparel and textile in the new industrial policy of the state government. The program was inaugurated with the lamp lightning ceremony by Sh. Inderjit Singh, Registrar, NIIFT, Sh. Mahesh Khanna, General Manager, District Industries Centre cum Centre Incharge, NIIFT, Ludhiana, Dr. Poonam Aggarwal, Principal, NIIFT, Ms. Mridula Jain, Managing Director, M/s. Shingora Textiles Ltd, Ms. Rajwinder Kaur, Anukama Coordinator and Er. Harpreet Singh, Design Collection Coordinator. The highlight of Anukama’ 19 was a collection, designed by Srishti, a student of Fashion Design Knits department. The collection named 'Shades of Moon', which was inspired by changes happening in moon, from no moon to full moon. The ensembles had been created by using combination of silver, grey, black, golden, red and yellow colours, to represent no five phases of moon. The hand-made collection of Paramjeet Kaur is made by using hand-crocheting techniques, by using bold and dark colours, which depicts strength and power. Anika has created a collection on Khadi, to promote Make in India. Ayushi created a collection, Unity in Diversity, to give a message to stand united against violence, like Pulwama attack. Mayank has created a collection by considering women sexual assault by applying social messages on garments, with a theme name on MeToo. Epic of Mahabharta is an inspiration of Garima, whereas Taj Mahal is an inspiration by Aditi Garg. Mr. Inderjit Singh, Registrar, NIIFT alongwith Mr. Mahesh Khanna, General Manager, District Industries Centre-cum-Centre Incharge, NIIFT, Ludhiana and also gave away the awards to the promising students. A total of 13 awards, in each department, were given to the deserving students on the basis of their performance. The awards are as follows: The Best Design Collection award of Fashion Design Knits department went to Ruby Saini, Best Garment Construction was shared by Shivani Malhotra and Shashank Saxena, Best Commercial Collection was shared by Srishti and Swapnil Kumar. The Most Creative Collection was also shared by Paramjeet Kaur and Kumari Vandana. The Best Usage of Art in Design Development was shared by Neha Gupta and Jasdeep Kaur. The Jury special awards were given to Deepti Shreya, Mandeep Kaur, Hargeet Kaur and Anjali. The best design Collection from Fashion Design department was bagged by Snehal Sandhu Best Garment Construction was shared by Shikha Gupta and Ayushi Kaul, Best Commercial Collection was shared by Shalu Saini and Pallavi Gurung. The Most Creative Collection was also shared by Nitin Kumar Mishra and Riya Manan. The Best Usage of Art in Design Development was shared by Das Nimrata and Muskaan Arora and the Jury Special Award was bagged by Hargeet Kaur and Anjali. Mr. Sunder Sham Arora, Industries & Commerce Minister, Punjab , conveyed "NIIFT has done Punjab proud. The students who pass out from here act as brand ambassadors for Punjab when they make a mark in their chosen jobs or by creating start ups not just in Punjab, but other parts of the country.” Smt Vini Mahajan, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Punjab & Chairperson, NIIFT conveyed, “The mission of NIIFT is to educate and mentor students interested in a career in fashion by imparting skill based training which is in tune with Industry requirements. This is where NIIFT plays a vital role in shaping the students' into talented designers.” Mr. Manjit Singh Brar, IAS, Director of Industries & Commerce, Punjab & Director General, NIIFT conveyed, “Students used the platform of Anukama 19 to present their signature style. They put in their best of work which could be seen in the collections presented.” These students were guided by their Mentors- Rajwinder Kaur, Er. Harpreet Singh, Ramanpreet Kaur and Navneet Suman.An eminent jury made up of Fashion, Apparel and Textile Experts evaluated the designed collections. 30 female and 05 male students walked the ramp adding the glam quotient to the students’ creations." said Mr. Mahesh Khanna, GM, DIC & Centre Incharge, NIIFT, Ludhiana. It is noteworthy that NIIFT is a diverse, and expanding college of Fashion, Management and Technology established in 1995 and has grown to be one of India's premiere institutes. NIIFT is under the administrative control of the Department of Industries and Commerce, Punjab. Admissions to the Degree Programs are based on clearing an entrance test which is scheduled for 02/06/2019. This year the last date of submission of applications is 26/05/2019. The entrance test is followed by the situation test/ interviews and counseling respectively.
