Ludhiana, March 7, 2014: Endoscopy uses video projected images of the Gastrointestinal tracts to add in the diagnosis of esophagus (food pipe), Stomach, intestines and biliary tracts, thereby helping in the treatment of various illness through the same endoscope using various instruments/accessories.
Recent high definition endoscopes are now available which have a high resolution/ definition of quality images of great accuracy in the diagnosis and add management of patients. This also includes  NBI (Narrow band imaging) which uses short wave length blue light which is reflected from the surfaces of the mucosal tracts and which further discriminate normal from the abnormal tissue particularly early cancer.
Blue light NBI is an advancement over the conventional white light endoscopy which is routinely available. The department of Gatroenterology and Hepatology  CMC and Hospital is now equipped with new high definition NBI-Technology endoscopic instrument, which is the latest 190 series from the Olympus company (JAPAN), the first of its kind in the city of Ludhiana. It was inaugurated by the director DR. A.G Thomas in the presence of other dignitaries of the hospital, faculty and staffs of gastroenterology and G.I. endoscopy. The inauguration ceremony was preceded by prayer meeting. In the inaugural meeting, Dr. Thomas mentioned the interesting story behind the financial contribution done by the friends of Ludhiana society, Dr. Keithine and his colleagues at UK & he thanked all of them for their kind assistance in the welfare of the patient seeking care in this hospital.
