Most union territories go to BJP

New Delhi, May 16 (IANS) The BJP Friday won four of the six Lok Sabha seats in union territories across the country.

In Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Bishnu Pada Ray of the Bharatiya Janata Party defeated Kuldeep Rai Sharma of the Congress by over 7,000 votes. While Ray polled 90,969 votes, Sharma got 83,157, officials said.

In Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Patel Natubhai Gomanbhai of the BJP beat Delkar Mohanbhai Sanjibhai of the Congress by just over 6,000 ballots. The BJP candidate got 80,790 votes, while his Congress rival polled 74,576.

In Daman and Diu, BJP's Patel Lalubhai Babubhai defeated Ketan Dahyabhai Patel of the Congress by over 9,000 votes. The BJP leader got 46,960 votes, while the Congress candidate got 37,738, officials said.

In Chandigarh, Bollywood actress and BJP candidate Kirron Kher won by 69,642 votes, defeating four-time Congress MP Pawan Kumar Bansal, and actress Gul Panag of the Aam Aadmi Party.

However, the scene was different in Lakshadweep.

Mohammed Faizal P.P. of the Nationalist Congress Party defeated incumbent MP Hamdullah Sayeed of the Congress by just around 1,000 votes.

Faizal polled 21,665 votes, while the Congress leader got 20,130 ballots.

In Lakshadweep, the BJP candidate got a mere 187 votes.

In Puducherry, Minister of State in the PMO V. Narayanasamy lost to R. Radhakrishan of the All India N.R. Congress by 60,854 votes.

Radhakrishnan secured 2,55,826 votes while Narayanasamy got 1,94,972 votes.
