Chandigarh, March 4, 2015: The Labour Department, Punjab, has been successful in keeping 99 percent factories accident free in the state. The Punjab Government accords top priority to ensure higher security standards in the factories and industrial sector. These views were expressed by Labour Minister, Punjab, Bhagat Chunni Lal while addressing a gathering today during 44th National Safety day State Level function at Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).
According to an official spokesperson, the Labour Minister gave State Safety Awards to 32 managements for zero accidents in their factories. On this occasion, 3 ‘kirt shiromani’ and 3 ‘kirt veer’ awards were also given to the workers for their valuable suggestions.
Divulging further details, the spokesperson informed that the Labour Commissioner-cum-Director of Factories, Punjab, Harbhupinder Singh Nanda said that in Punjab the accident rate is less than one per thousand workers against the national figure of nine.
According to the spokesperson, on this eve Principal Secretary, Labour, Punjab, Vishwajeet Khanna said that the directorate of factories keeps in touch with the managements of factories and helps them in ensuring safety standards of highest level in their institutions. He also said that the safety standards of the factories are checked on regular basis by the directorate and also, a new inspection policy has been framed. Now, the list of factories to be inspected is to be sent by the Headquarter.
