Ludhiana, August 6, 2018: The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, in association with the Indian Army, today started a tree plantation drive along the Budha Nullah. The tree plantation drive was inaugurated by Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu and councillor Mamta Ashu from near Haibowal Pully, here today. During today’s drive, more than 100 tree saplings were planted along the Budha Nullah.

While speaking on the occasion, Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu stated that the Ludhiana MC is committed to make our city clean and green. He said that is why, thousands of tree saplings are being planted in different parts of the city. He said that the MC is not only planting the tree saplings but has also roped in several NGOs to ensure that the tree saplings are taken care of and finally bloom into fully grown trees.

He thanked the personnel of Indian Army for supporting the MC in this drive. He said that all the pits for the plantation of tree saplings have been dug by the Indian Army personnel.

Councillor Mamta Ashu stated that the Punjab Government has launched a novel initiative in the form of ‘i-Hariyali’ app as part of the strategy formulated under Mission Tandrust Punjab to ensure clean, green, healthy and robust Punjab with the active participation of the masses. She said that the main characteristic of the app is that any resident of the state can book a sapling of his/her choice sitting at home with the click of a button. She said that the “i-hariyali” mobile app is available for both android and IOS based mobile phones and is absolutely free of cost. The rationale behind this app is to inspire more and more people to plant maximum saplings during the current monsoon season so as to save the environment from pollution hazards.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Councillors Maharaj Singh Raji and Rashi Aggarwal, former councillor Hem Raj Aggarwal, Pardeep Dhall of Geeta Mandir besides several others.
