Chandigarh, July 4, 2013: The Punjab Government has announced 75% subsidy on maize seeds in 10 districts of the state with a view to encourage the farmers for crop diversification.

Disclosing this here today, Gurbachan Singh Babbehali, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Agriculture, said that preliminary this subsidy would be provided to the farmers in 10 districts including Barnala, Fathegarh Sahib, Jalandhar, Kapurthla, Ludhiana, Moga, Patiala, Ropar, Sangrur And Mohali, which would be further extended to remaining districts in the second phase. 

The CPS said that Agriculture Department was providing 75 percent subsidy on hybrid seeds of maize P 3396 and TX 369 under PPP mode. He said that farmers can get a yield of more than 9 tonnes per hectare. He said that State Government has made elaborate arrangements for marketing of the crop.  He said that Punjab Government is being installing maize driers at Saila Khurd in Hoshiarpur district and at Nawan Shahr for the facilitation of farmers. He said that the both driers would become operations soon.
