Ludhiana, April 10, 2015: For keeping a check on duplication of votes, the Election Commission of India has ordered to link elector’s photo identity card (EPIC) with Aadhaar cards. All Booth Level Officers of Ludhiana district would organise special camps on all polling booths on April 12, where they would update details such as Aadhaar card number, mobile number and email addresses of the voters.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Khanna) Ajay Sood today convened a meeting of all political parties and urged them to help and assist the district administration in this regard. Sood informed that the main aim of linking Aadhaar card with EPIC is to check duplication of votes.

ADC Ajay Sood informed that if any person is having more than one vote in any area of the district, the voter can get it deleted by filling in form number 7 himself. He said that if any voter wants to make any correction, he can fill form number 8 and to get the vote transferred to some other address, form number 8 A can be filled.

Ajay Sood informed that to get EPIC linked to Aadhaar card, the voters can contact at toll free number 1950, for which he would have to provide numbers of Aadhaar card as well as of the EPIC. If the voter wants to submit his Aadhaar card by SMS, then he would have to type, ECILINK <SPACE> EPICNUMBER <SPACE> AADHAAR NUMBER and send it to 51969. Or the voter can log in to Election Commission of India website, www.eci.nic.in or at http://nvsp.in/qy.

The ADC has appealed to all voters of Ludhiana district to visit the polling booths on April 12 and get their information updated between 10 am to 5 pm.

Appealing the representatives of political parties, the ADC informed that as per the activity schedule issued by Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, for updating Aadhaar card numbers, mobile numbers and email ID';s, the BLO';s would carry a door to door survey from April 12, 2015 to May 31, 2015.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Dev Raj from CPI (M), Shiv Chand Gogi from Bahujan Samaj Party, Ramesh Rattan from CPI, Surinder Sharma from Indian National Congress, Tehsildar (Elections) Sukhdev Singh, Kanugo (Elections) Rakesh Kumar, besides several others.
