Ludhiana, October 28, 2015: The scientists of Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samrala organized an awareness campaign on “Paddy Straw Management.” The PAU experts, Dr G.S.Buttar, Additional Director of Extension Education and Dr D.S Bhatti, Associate Director of Extension Education alongwith the KVK team visited and interacted with the farmers of the village Samrala. They urged the farmers to shun the practice of paddy straw burning and manage it by using paddy straw chopper shredder. Experts, while giving demonstrations on the use of paddy straw chopper, motivated the farmers to adopt this technology.
A group of farmers namely Sh. Jashmer Singh, Co-operative Pardhan and Chairman, Samiti; Sh. Gurdev Singh from Verka, Ludhiana; Sh. Hardeep Singh, Member, Block Samiti; and Sh. Baljit Singh, Sarpanch of the village Satabgarh discussed the paddy straw management technique. They were also shown a video of farmers who adopted the straw management technology. The Chairman and others were highly impressed and ensured a wider publicity of this technology among the farmers.
During the field visit, KVK experts including Dr S.C Sharma, Associate Director; Dr Devinder Tiwari, Assistant Professor (Extension Education) and Er Rajneesh Kumar, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering) highlighted water saving techniques, nutrient management techniques, different crop varieties, and achievements of seed shop at KVK, Samrala.
