KVK HOSHIARPUR ORGANISES MONTHLY MEETING OF KISAN CLUB

Ludhiana, June 28, 2017: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bahowal, Hoshiarpur organized monthly meeting of its Kisan club at KVK campus on 27-6-17. This club has been formed for dissemination of latest technologies of Punjab Agricultural University to the farmers/farm women of the area, gaining first hand knowledge of various field problems of the area and their solutions, eliciting important feedbacks and interventions of the farmers at the field level and providing valuable tips for the strengthening of the extension system. During this meeting various experts from PAU, Ludhiana deliberated on important topics for the betterment of the farming community. At the outset, Dr Maninder Singh Bons, Incharge, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur welcomed the experts and the farmers of the area. He discussed about the various extension activities being carried out by KVK and also the active & receptive role being played by the Kisan club members towards these programmes & adoption of improved technologies. Dr R K Dubey, Assistant Professor (Landscaping), Deptt. of Landscaping & Floriculture, discussed about important tips in the cultivation of seasonal flowers, especially gladiolus, chrysanthemum and rose and exhorted the farmers for vale addition in flower cultivation. He also asked the farmers to form self help groups for reducing input costs and getting more profits from their venture. Dr. Balkaran Singh Gill, Senior Plant Breeder, discussed about the crop production practices for maize crop and exhorted the farmers to go in for cultivation of kharif maize hybrid PMH 1, on which 50 % subsidy was available by the Department of Agriculture, Govt. of Punjab. Dr Tosh Garg, Assistant Maize Breeder, Maize Section, gave a detailed account of the attributes of the different hybrids and composites of maize and their different purposes, especially for baby corn and popcorn. He also sensitized the farmers on the various aspects of hybrid seed production of maize. On this occasion, scientists of the KVK, Er. Ajaib Singh spoke about the efficient use of natural resources and Dr Dhram Parkash sensitized the farmers about the need for soil testing. The experts also had a fruitful discussion with the club members and answered their queries. For the benefit of the farmers, seeds of maize, soybean, mash, til and fodder maize were made available for sale purposes. In the end, S. Sardara Singh Jandoli, President of the club, thanked all the experts for delivering informative lectures and farmers for listening attentively to the proceedings of this programme and assured all support for carrying out various extension activities in the future.
