Ludhiana, July 29, 2019: Kinnow a hybrid between King Mandarian x Willow leaf orange produced by H.B.Frost in 1915 and released in 1935 was introduced by Dr.J.C.Bakhshi at Abohar Research Station during 1954.
Kinnow covered largest area in Punjab.
Among various problems, the fruit drop in kinnow is one of the major problems faced by the growers. The pathological fruit drop in citrus is a wide spread disease in Punjab and results in huge economic losses to kinnow growers. Mainly it occurs during September and October in kinnow growing areas.
For their remedial measures FASC Faridkot demonstrated the technology on fruit drop to 40 growers of the District.
A program was organized on the orchard of Saurav Gandhi, attended by all the members of “Bagh Privar”. Bagh Privar is the group of almost all the kinnow growers of District Faridkot.
Dr.Harinder Singh, Senior Extension Specialist said about the activities of Farmer Advisory Service Centre. He also gave the tips to create health ecosystem in orchards.
Dr.Gurdarshan Singh, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) aware the growers for taking various steps for productive orchards and their control. He showed the Mn deficiency symptoms on the kinnow plant. He also discussed the kinnow diseases and their management. He demonstrated the application of technological inputs such as Sodium Chlorate, Carbendism and Cuman L.
The inputs was provided to all the growers to manage the fruit drops in kinnow. The growers appreciated the efforts of Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana to provide demonstrations on fruit drops.
