Khanna residents seen worried over increasing menace of stray animals

Khanna, October 15, 2017: As far as the problem of stray animals is concerned, the government and the administration as well are least concerned with this very sensitive and important issue. Despite imposing cow cess on various government services, the government and the administration is not taking any concrete step to check the losses caused by stray animals. Local Revenue Department/Municipal Councils/Corporations are directly responsible for this public issue, hence, the concerned authorities should be held responsible for any kind of losses occurred due to stray animals.The residents and commuters at Khanna are facing hardships due to stray cattle mainly bulls. The stray animals often roam in the city and disturb the traffic in Khanna.
FIRST HAND INFORMATION
During a visit of outskirt and walled Khanna city, this correspondent witnessed the depth of the menace of stray cattle in the city. More than two dozen stray bulls were sitting along with the national highway passing through the city while more than three dozen stray cattle were witnessed on Amloh road near Sabzi Mandi in Khanna. While Samrala Road Chowk, Amloh Road Chowk, Nandi Colony and other areas of Khanna are the worst affected as the stray bulls and cows roam on these roads and streets. The other reason to worry is that these stray animals can be witnessed fighting on every nook and corner of Khanna.
Vivek, a resident of Khanna alleged that not a single day in Khanna passed when one or more than one person not get injured by theses stray animals, but the administration seems to be waiting for some major accident.
RESIDENTS SPEAK
Harsh Bhalla, a resident Khanna also alleged that due to this stray cattle menace the residents and commuters face hardship in their routine life. But the authorities keep their eyes closed on this menace.
Vijay Sharma, a municipal councilor, when contacted in this regard claimed that an NGO approached them and appealed the local body authorities for providing land for the stray cattle to them so that they keep away all the stray cattle there. Vijay Sharma further claimed that after this they formed a four-member committee for selection of a piece of land for the purpose and hoped that the problem would be sorted out soon.
RECALL OF TRAGIC INCIDENT:
A 65 –years-old man died while his wife was injured when their two-wheeler skidded while saving a stray cow near Libra village on national highway in this month. In another incident, a doctor lost his life on Amloh Road when two bulls infighting attacked on him when he was trying to pass from aside. A same incident happened on national highway near Grain Market when two bulls attacked on a biker who was going near from them and killed him. And there is a long list of such incidents to narrate.
