Jalandhar, January 8, 2014: Sukhpal Singh Khiara, Official Spokesperson, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), on behalf of the Congress party and the people of Punjab has made a fervent appeal to all right thinking and well meaning NRIs, particularly the elected representatives of all countries, to boycott the proposed NRI Sammelan being organised by the Punjab Government.
In a statement today, he added as “we are all aware, the sensational Rs. 6000 crore drug racket has rocked the state of Punjab. The recent sensational disclosures made by Jagdish Bhola drug lord directly naming Bikram Majithia the NRI Minister, Punjab and brother in law of deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal, has clearly indicated to a deep nexus between the drug mafia-powerful politicians and the police. The people of Punjab are curiously awaiting to know full details and names of all such powerful people involved in drug trafficking, ruining the lives of lacs of households of Punjab”.
He added it is also noteworthy to mention here, that the said dangerous synthetic drugs being manufactured by the mafia here in Punjab, are routed to all countries of the world, particularly Canada and America. In other words the said drug trafficking directly affects the youth and children of all our NRI brothers.
Therefore, it would be very appropriate and befitting for our NRI fraternity to show solidarity with all those fighting and opposing the drug menace in Punjab, he said, adding by participating and enjoying the hospitality of the Punjab Government, particularly the NRI Minister Bikram Majithia directly named as kingpin of the scandal by drug lord Bhola, would only mean supporting the drug mafia in Punjab.
He pointed out that this appeal is more for all those elected NRI representatives particularly of Canada, UK, Australia and USA not to participate in the so called NRI ‘Sammelan’, meant only to eulogize the Badal-Majithia clan. If politically aware people like the NRIs living in developed nations do not express resentment and oppose tooth and nail, the drug trafficking at the behest of powerful politicians and choose to participate in the ‘Sammelan’, it would demoralise all those opposing the menace of drugs in Punjab.// punjab news live, punjab news online, punjab news, punjab news headlines, punjab breaking news, india news, punjab news,
