JUDGMENT: 2 years RI to then chief manager of Central Bank of India in bribery case

Jalandhar, January 18, 2013: The Special Judge for CBI Cases, Nagpur has convicted Surender Kumar Gupta, then Chief Manager, Central Bank of India, Nagpur and sentenced him to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs.12,000/- U/s 7 of PC Act, 1988 and U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988.

CBI had registered a case against Surender Kumar Gupta, Chief Manager, Central Bank of India, Nagpur (On deputation to DRT, Nagpur as Recovery Officer) on the basis of a complaint alleging that he had demanded a bribe of Rs.25,000 for issuing possession warrant for taking the flat purchased by complainant in public auction held by DRT, Nagpur on June 11, 2007. After registration of the case, a trap was laid and Surender Kumar Gupta was caught red handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs. 5,000 from the complainant.

After investigation, CBI had filed the chargesheet on June 6, 2008. The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted him.
