JAC of Grant- in- Aid Colleges decides to withhold dharnas to be held at Patiala, Ludhiana and Jalandhar

Jalandhar, January 8, 2015: The Joint Action Committee of Grant- in- Aid Colleges held a meeting with Minister of Higher Education, Punjab Surjit Singh Rakhra  and Dr Roshan Sunkaria, Secretary, Higher Education Punjab at the Secretariat, Chandigarh on Wednesday. 

The agenda of the meeting were the release of up to date grants for the teaching and the non-teaching, the restoration of house rent and medical allowance, the release of arrears of non- teaching staff and the filling up of the vacant posts. The minister gave the patient hearing and assured that the serious efforts are being made for the release of grants to the college employees and he added not to adjust the grant already released to the colleges in respect of gratuity and leave encashment upto the final decision of the court.

The secretary, higher education said that very soon the arrears to the non-teaching staff will be disbursed. He also said that   he has already ordered the concerned officials to look into the matter of restoration of House Rent and Medical Allowance. In respect to the filling up of the vacant posts of teaching staff, he requested the principals to send their proposals according to the policy of DPI colleges, as soon as possible and take the approval to follow the process to fill up the posts viz. through advertisement etc. Filling of the posts of the non-teaching staff is also in the process. The revised grade which is to be given to the non teaching staff members from 01-12-2011 will also be considered sympathetically keeping in view the parity with government colleges.

In this light, the Joint- Action Committee has decided to withhold the dharnas to be held on January 9 at Patiala and January 20 at Ludhiana and January 29 at Jalandhar.
