International honour for city surgeon Ranbir Singh
Ludhiana: Dr.Ranbir Singh, consultant surgeon, SPS hospitals,Ludhiana and specialist in Laparoscopic surgery was honoured with the prestigious fellowship by the American college of surgeons on 22nd Oct. 2018 in the annual convocation held in Boston, USA. This honour was bestowed to him by the incoming President Prof.Ronald Maier. This fellowship known as FACS is awarded to the surgeons across the world for recognition of professional accomplishments, academic contributions and surgical competence in the field of medicine and surgery. His work on safe laparoscopic gall bladder surgery – known as critical view of safety method is the pioneer work, which has been acknowledged in the scientific field of surgery. He also attended the consensus conference on prevention of bile duct injuries (complications ) following gall bladder surgery and was one of the member for recommending the guidelines by the five leading surgical societies of the world like SAGES,EAES,IHPBA,AHPBA and SSAT. These guidelines and recommendations will be later on circulated and published in the international journals. Dr Singh had worked in Washington university school of medicine in St Louis, USA last year under the world renowned surgeon Prof. Michael Brunt, chief of MIS and was also guided by the legendary Prof. Steven Strasberg. The Deptt. of MIS & Hepatobiliary surgery Washington university are the pioneers of advocating the culture of safety technique in gall bladder surgery. Dr Singh received his university fellowship in Laparoscopic surgery from Maharashtra University,Nashik and was trained in Galaxy care hospital, Pune. He has published scientific papers in national and international journals .
