INFANTRY DAY CELEBRATIONS AT VAJRA CORPS

Jalandhar, October 27, 2016: Vajra Corps celebrated the 69th Infantry Day with traditional solemnity and gaiety on 27 Oct 2016. Lieutenant General BS Sahrawat, General Officer Commanding, Vjra Corps laid wreath at `Vajra Shaurya Sthal’ in Jalandhar and paid homage to the fallen heroes. Apart from the serving officers of the station, Infantry veterans of Jalandhar station were also present on the occasion.

October 27 is celebrated as Infantry Day by the Indian Army as it was on this day in 1947, that an Infantry Company of the First Battalion The Sikh Regiment was airlifted from Delhi to Srinagar to liberate Kashmir from the invading tribals who were supported by Pakistan Army.

At the Golden Arrow Division the wreath was laid by the General Officer Commanding, Major General Vijay Pingale and other officers paid homage to the Martyrs at the Infantry War Memorial. It was followed by unit level Barakhana for all ranks. General Officer Commanding of Pine Division, Major General Rajesh Chaba also laid a wreath at the “Pine War Memorial”. The ceremony was also graced by all seniors Veterans, serving officers and Jawans of the station.

Wreath was also laid at Panther Division at the Panther Inspirational Park by General Officer Commanding, Panther Division. Wreath laying ceremonies were also organised at Dera Baba Nanak War Memorial and Batala War Memorial which were attended by all serving ranks and Veterans. Infantry, also popularly known as the ‘Queen of the Battle’ is the largest fighting arm of the Indian Army.
