Jalandhar, July 3, 2015: The newly constituted Board of Governors of IKG PTU held its first meeting today at Kapurthala Campus. The meeting was chaired by the Chief Secretary Punjab, IAS Sarvesh Kaushal as Chairman BOG.
The Board held detailed deliberations to chalk out the future road map for the University to establish it as premier Technical University in the country. The University shall work in close coordination with affiliated colleges to improve the quality of Technical Education in general and employability of our graduates in particular. The University will encourage its affiliated colleges toward community and social service by adopting a village of their choice and contributing to the social and economic development of the adopted village through the students and faculty.
BOG Chairman said, “In order to improve the governance, it was decided that the University will follow the UGC guidelines in its entirety and any departure shall be specifically got approved from the Board giving full justifications. The regulations of the University will be finalized within sixty days and then notified by the State Government as per the provisions of PTU Act.”
He further stated, “The University will establish centers of excellence to promote sports amongst the students and prepare them for the national level competitions. It is also decided to encourage the students and teachers of the University & its affiliated colleges for greater usage of library facilities particular e-journals. The university will further strengthen and expand Human Value Education and will encourage all faculties with the affiliated colleges to be trained on the same.”
The University will encourage students for research and postgraduate studies by upgrading various facilities.
The Board also setup a subcommittee comprises of Dr. M. P. Poonia, Director, NITTR, Chandigarh; Dr. Dharinder Tayal; Sachit Jain, and Dr. A.P. Singh, Dean RIC, for closely examining the plans and roadmap for Punjab Institutes of Technologies (PITs) being setup by University.
The Board gave utmost priority to the transparency in the functioning of the University and it was decided that all the rules and regulations and, agenda and decisions of the Board and various committees should be uploaded on the University website. The Board decided to encourage employees at all level to come up with innovative and futuristic ideas for taking the University forward.
The Board approved to implement the credit and grading system for its academic program as per UGC guidelines from the current year and choice based credit system from the next year. It was also decided that university will pro-actively seek suggestions, feedback and grievance, if any, from various stake holders through its website. Chairman BOG sought creative, innovative and futuristic ideas from the members of the board for the growth and development of the university.
The meeting was also attended by IAS M. P. Singh, Principal Secretary to Technical Education and Industrial Training as well as Vice-Chairman, BOG I.K. Director (T & A), Finance Department, Punjab; Mohanbir Singh Sidhu, Addl. Director, DTE, Punjab; Dr. Ravi Kumar, Principal, BCET, Gurdaspur; Ms. Kamna Raj Aggarwala, Nominee President CII; Dr. A. P. Singh, Dean RIC; Dr. M. P. Poonia, Director NITTR Chandigarh; Sanchit Jain, Joint Managing Director Vardhman Textiles; Dharinder Tayal entrepreneur and Dr. Amanpreet Singh, Registrar, IKG-PTU.
