International Yoga Day being celebrated by IKG-PTU on Sunday.

Jalandhar, June 21, 2015:- Marking its presence in this historic campaign, I.K Gujral Punjab Technical University has participated in the first International Yoga Day, commemorated at its main campus here today.

On this auspicious occasion, Dr. Satish Sharma, winner of Vikas Rattan Award, Rashtriya Swasth Award and Highest Appreciation Award has remained the Cheif Guest. He is the President of various bodies like Vigyaan Bharti, National Integrated Medical Association (NIMA) etc.

He completed the course defined in total 33 minutes along with an oath at end. University employees were made practiced various types of yogas and aasans.

Telling about the importance of this day Dr. Satish Sharma said, "We should feel honored that we all have participated in this first international Yoga day. Yoga plays a significant role in everyone';s life. To remain positive with healthy living,  yoga is essential. Awareness among youth is the need of hour. And today a great chunk of population has joined this campaign all over the nation. "

He further stressed and advised the participants to regularly practice yoga for at least twenty minutes a day."

Er. Paramjeet Singh, Controller Examination said, "This day marks a huge importance for all. It is indeed a great initiative taken. We must inculcate yoga in our busy lives to live a sound life. These techniques will help in keeping your body fit too."

The chief guest was later honored with a token of love.

Punjab Institute of Management, the main campus of University also joined the citizens of India and others across the globe in celebrating the International Yoga Day.

The celebrations started off with the Director Incharge of PIM Dr. Harmeen Soch explaining to the faculty, staff, research scholars and students about why our current Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi had suggested celebrating this day on June 21 as it is the longest day in the year which is summer solstice. She explained how summer solstice marks the transition to Dakshinayana which is considered a time when there is natural support for those pursuing spiritual practices.
